Welcome to Drone Data Care

Australia’s first cyber risks and data protection policy aimed at commercial UAV and Drone operators created by Kobe Insurance Services to protect operators from their legal obligations in relation to capturing and restoring data.
“Like the internet and GPS before them, drones are evolving beyond their military origin to become powerful business tools. They’ve already made the leap to the consumer market, and now they’re being put to work in commercial and civil government applications from firefighting to farming. That’s creating a market opportunity that’s too large to ignore.”
Due to the high network dependency and the vast collection of data, commercial drone operators may not have adequate cover for their business under their traditional insurances (Hull & Liability polices provided in today market place). Hence the need for this product.
Drone DataCare aims to bridge the gaps and provide cover to protect the storage and collection of data for commercial operators, for example:

Some policy highlights are as follows –

  • Reimbursement for loss of business income or increased costs due to a cyberattack including damage or destruction of hardware, so that the data stored is not readable. Traditionally this is not covered.
  • Reimbursement for re-collection or restoration of data. Traditionally this is either not covered or very low sub-limits are offered ($5,000) and exclusions applied relating to a cyberattack for instance.
  • Reimbursement for damages, penalties, legal defense costs and penalties for infringement, or violation of any right to privacy including, but not limited to, breach of a person’s right of publicity, intrusion upon a person’s seclusion, public disclosure of Personal Information. Traditionally this is not covered, or sub-limits are applied.
  • Reimbursement for ransoms paid following a cyber extortion threat. Traditionally this is not covered.
